Abberley Parish Council wish to extend deepest condolences to Her Majesty, The Queen, on the death of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh.

We recognise with grateful thanks the life a man who was a shining example of what it means to put others before self. The loss to our country is very great and we hope to mirror in some small way, by public service, that sense of duty which is so important in upholding all the values embodied in the role of service which Prince Philip unstintingly performed throughout his life.

Our thoughts and prayers are offered for Her Majesty the Queen and her family at this sad time.

Order made: to close that part of The Village from its junction with U64410 Abberley to its junction with C2071 Abberley

Reason: structural repairs to the property following a significant vehicular impact leading to the property experiencing structural movement.

Exemptions: to permit access to any land or premises fronting the highway affected where there is no other form of access; and to allow the works to be undertaken.

Alternative route: C2276 Abberley, C2276 Dunley, A451 Dunley, A451 Yarhampton, A451 Stourport Road, A443 Worcester Road, A443 Great Witley Road, A443 The Common Abberley to Wynniatts Way, B4202 Apostles Oak, B4202 Clows Top Road, C2071 Apostles Oak and vice versa.

that a casual vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the Parish Council following the resignation on 26th March 2021 of Councillor James Gibson

 

If by 22nd April 2021 a request for an election to fill said vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer at the address below by TEN electors** for the said Parish, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

There’s still time to take part in the census

There is still time for residents across the Wychavon District to fill in the census questionnaire.

Census Day, which was on Sunday March 21, marked the day that millions of people across England and Wales completed key questions about themselves and their households to ensure local services in every community are informed by the best information possible.

For those who have not yet submitted their online or paper questionnaires or have maybe misplaced their invitation letter, there is lots of help available.

A new unique access code can be requested online and there is face-to-face assistance at local Census Support Centres.

Field officers are also calling at households who have not completed their census. They will follow social distancing and COVID-safe guidelines, supporting people to take part. They will be equipped with PPE and will never need to enter anyone’s home.

The results from the census will shed light on the needs of different groups and communities, and the inequalities people are experiencing. This is to ensure the big decisions facing the country following the pandemic and EU exit are based on the best information possible, through the anonymised answers provided.

The Office of National Statistics will never share personal details and no-one, including government bodies, will be able to identify anyone in census statistics. Personal census records will be kept secure for 100 years, and only then can future generations view it.

Cllr Bradley Thomas, Leader of Wychavon District Council, said: “There is still time to take part in the census and we encourage those who haven’t done so to fill it out as soon as possible. There is plenty of support available for those who need it both online and offline. The census is so important, and it only takes ten minutes out of your day to complete.”

If the census is not completed, there is a risk of a fine of up to £1,000.

NOTICE OF THE CLOSURE OF THE VILLAGE, ABBERLEY, WORCESTERSHIRE (“THE HIGHWAY”)

 

Reason for restriction: Property stabilisation and repair following a significant vehicular impact There is a likelihood of danger to the public or of serious damage to the road.  There is a need to close the highway in the following terms:-

 

  1. The effect of this Notice is that no vehicle shall proceed along that part of the highway from its junction with U64410 Abberley to its junction with C2071 Abberley.

Abberley at Easter – hope for the future

12 months on from the first lockdown, coinciding with Easter, people in Abberley have marked the event and are looking forward to the future.

 

Displays are in windows and front gardens, at the shop, on the village sign on the main road and there are ribbons of reflection on the school railings.

MHDC Update – Changes to Bird Flu restrictions

Changes to Bird Flu restrictions

The Government has confirmed that the requirement for keepers of birds and poultry, including in private gardens, to keep them housed will be lifted on 31 March. Biosecurity measures will remain in place though and keepers of birds and poultry are asked to spend the next few days making preparations should they wish to allow their birds to wander around again.

They have developed a handy pack of assets and resources to help you engage local communities in the campaign. This includes a press release, assets for social media and key messages.

 

Getting Involved

This year, supporters can join Keep Britain Tidy by again making a simple pledge and let us know how many minutes you’ll clean-up for during the campaign (28 May – 13 June 2021).

They’ll convert those minutes to miles with the hope that, come summer, we can all enjoy a cleaner, greener, litter-free environment.

People can pledge as an individual or as a group, ensuring they follow the latest Covid-19 guidance about group gatherings outdoors. On their site, they have all the latest safety advice and information.

Abberley at Easter – hope for the future

 

12 months on from the first lockdown and still urged to stay local, how about marking Easter and the hope of better things to come with a display or a sign in a window or front garden that people walking past could enjoy?

 

If this is something you feel you would like to do please could you have your display in place by Palm Sunday (28th March) and leave it up until Sunday 11th April, the week after Easter Sunday.

 

If you would like to let Abberley Parish Council know what you are planning, we will create a simple listing of the displays so that people can plan a route to see them all.

 

Covid restrictions mean no Palm Sunday parades this year, but a trail would mean people could follow a route individually.  Abberley WI are already working on a display for the Village Shop, there will be a sign on the main road and several people are already working on ideas – do join in.
